There is no specific time frame to commence abdominal exercises after a C-section, but various factors are however important in deciding when you can start this specific form of exercise. First of all a C-section is a major surgical procedure that involves cutting through all the abdominal layers and your womb. Healing along these planes of tissues take a while and in many cases, years with marked variation among different people. As you heal, the integrity and functions of these layers are gradually reinstated. Commencing abdominal exercises depends on adequate healing of your abdominal muscles and the first impression of proper healing occur when the abdominal pains cease to exist following exertion of these muscles. While ample time should be given to allow the abdominal wall scar to regain its strength and integrity, abdominal exercises can be commenced once abdominal pains do not occur following mild to moderate abdominal exercises which should be jettisoned immediately an iota of pain is felt. Other factors include previous pre-pregnancy history of doing exercises including abdominal exercises, history of post operative wound breakdown and motivational state of the individual. Therefore, no specific time frame can be stated but the approach should be taken on an individual basis.
